As a graduate of Auburn, and dating a man still currently living in Auburn, Al, I like to keep up to date on things happening on campus. I just spotted this in yesterdays Plainsman ( the AU newspaper) and wanted to share.
Department of Psychology promoting Jeans Day Movement-
The department of psychology in the College of Liberal Arts is encouraging everyone in the Auburn and Opeloka communities to donate $2 and wear jeans to work on Friday, Jan 30th. Wearing jeans is a response to a ruling by a judge who overturned a rape conviction saying "the victim's jeans were tight, therefore it would have required her cooperation to remove them." an outcry over the ruling led to Jeans Day Movement. All proceeds will benefit Rape Counselors of East Alabama, 2133 Executive Park Drive, Opelika, AL 36801
I just wanted to share that with hopes that even though in the blog world we live all over the USA and other countries we could all wear jeans today, and take a moment to pray for all the people out who are survivors of Rape, who were lucky to survive. I'm completely floored by the words of that judge! A judgement like his has NO place in our judicial system, and is completely wrong to begin with. A man who is determined to get what he wants wouldn't be deterred by "tight jeans." I know nothing about the girl, but feel agony for her think what it must felt like to be blamed for being raped.
Sorry for such a serious note on a Friday morning-- hope you're all have fantastic Fridays!
